São Paulo, Nov. 11 – The institutional mission of the University of Turin delegation reached its final day, during which two important activities were held that underscore the success of this extraordinary experience.
Prof. Alessandro Vercelli and Prof. Marina Boido, accompanied by Prof. Mariasilvia Ciola, held a high-level meeting with the top management of the University of São Paulo School of Medicine (USP). The School’s historic headquarters, a majestic building constructed back in 1912, hosted the meeting, which was marked by an atmosphere of great academic importance and tradition. The UniTO delegation was welcomed by the Dean of the School, Prof. Elosia Bonfà, Prof. Nelson Gouveia, vice president of the International Relations Commission, Prof. Paulo Menezes, vice president of the Research Commission, and Ms. Talita de Almeida, coordinator of the International Relations Office.
During the meeting, Prof. Vercelli and Prof. Bonfà agreed to initiate a series of thematic workshops between Italian and Brazilian researchers, starting with the important areas of oncology, psychiatry and neuroscience. These workshops will provide a solid basis for the future establishment of a specific agreement between the two medical schools, promoting international collaboration in the medical field. Also participating in the meeting was Prof. Danieli Andrade, who will soon arrive in Turin for a period as a visiting professor at the San Luigi Pole.
Meanwhile, UniTO’s Butterfly Area delegation returned to the Consulate General of Italy, where the signing ceremonies of two important cooperation agreements were held. These agreements involve the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and the Instituto Federal Catarinense (IFC) – Campus Rio do Sul, academic institutions of significance in Brazil.
Despite the exceptional weather conditions and flooding that affected the southern states of Brazil, preventing delegations from UniTO partner institutions from reaching São Paulo, the Consulate General of Italy showed great flexibility and readiness in organizing the signing ceremony via Google Meet! The signing ceremony was made even more significant by the participation of the Italian consuls of the consular posts of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, underscoring the importance of these cooperation agreements and the good relations between the two nations.
