On October 3, the UniTO delegation visiting Brazil visited the Italian Embassy in Brasilia where it was warmly welcomed by Ambassador Alessandro Cortese. The reason for this meeting was twofold: the signing of a memorandum of understanding with CONFAP (National Council of State Foundations of Support for Research and Innovation) and collaboration with the innovative company BAIC, which specializes in sustainable agriculture.
Memorandum of Understanding between UniTo and CONFAP for Amazonia+10.
UniTO is the first foreign institution to sign under the Amazonia+10 initiative, promoted by CONFAP (National Council of State Research Support Foundations). This agreement aims to promote international cooperation and research and technological innovation in Amazonia, with the goal of supporting the sustainable development of the region, including biodiversity and local communities.
An important agreement with BAIC
The agreement with BAIC is a significant step toward promoting sustainable agriculture. The company aims to reduce environmental impacts in agriculture through the use of bio-inputs obtained through biotechnology. Adoption of this technology makes it possible to preserve and protect pollinators, improve water use in the soil, and use plant-derived molecules to maximize agricultural efficiency. Thanks to the Butterfly Area project, which provides 50,000 square meters of space for companies and research centers, BAIC has chosen to establish its research and development unit in Turin, making Italy its reference point in Europe.
UniTo and the University of Brasilia
The afternoon of October 3 was devoted to meetings with the University of Brasilia. Rector Marcia Abrahao Moura and Rector Stefano Geuna signed a Memorandum of Understanding, committing to develop concrete collaboration projects that include the mobility of master’s and doctoral students, as well as collaboration between researchers. The goal is to join forces to promote research and innovation at both institutions.
October 3 was a busy and promising day for the University of Turin and its involvement in international collaborative projects. The signing of agreements with BAIC and CONFAP, along with the deepening collaboration with the University of Brasilia, represents an important step toward a future of shared research and commitment to environmental sustainability. Butterfly Area, with its cutting-edge initiative, continues to play a crucial role in promoting this successful collaboration.
